CBOE Records June Performance

The CBOE volume for the first half of 2009 was up 3 percent to 4.6 million contracts, from 4.5 million contracts last year. However, volumes were down 14 percent for the month of June from the previous year, which had the highest June volumes in the exchange’s entire history.

In particular, index options saw an average daily volume of roughly 820,000 contracts, a 16 percent decline from the previous June. Meanwhile, the ADV for the first half of June was down 7 percent to about 857,000 contracts.

ETF options saw similar declines for the first half, down 5 percent to 1,130,000 contracts, but far more dramatic declines for the month of June. The ADV for ETF options fell 25 percent from the previous year to 1,017,000 contracts.
